Canpack Middle East named a “green champion” at 13th Arabia CSR Awards
Canpack Middle East, part of the Canpack Group, a global manufacturer of beverage and food packaging, has been recognised in the Medium Sized Business category as a sustainability leader at the prestigious 13th Arabia CSR Awards, commonly regarded as the ‘Green Oscars’ of the Middle East.
Under the patronage and in the presence of HE Eng sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation Department and member of the Executive Council of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, 20 green champions from across the region were honoured for their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by the Arabia CSR Network (ACSRN) at one of the first public physical events post the Covid-19 outbreak in the UAE.
The winners were judged on their performance against international benchmarks such as the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model, and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. They were selected from entries from nine countries in the Middle East, covering 34 sectors.
“Since the inception of the Arabia CSR Awards in 2008, we have been building the foundation and accelerating the growth of CSR and sustainability best practices in the region. It has been a glorious journey of exploring, commending and sharing the best practices nationally, regionally and globally” said Mrs Habiba Al Mar’ashi, president & CEO of ACSRN, congratulating the winners.
“As we address the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and work towards the new reality, the Arab region has yet again proved its perseverance and persistence in undertaking CSR initiatives to enhance the welfare of the community and to preserve the environment while at the same time ensuring the sustainability of their operations and businesses,” she added.
“At Canpack we have put a variety of sustainability activities into practice. We constantly strive to improve our performance to demonstrate our commitment to creating a sustainable business. It lies at the heart of the company’s business strategy and corporate culture allowing us to develop our business responsibly and it contributes to our economic growth” said John O’Maoileoin, group sustainability director from Canpack.
“We are extremely proud of this award as it shows that we are heading in the right direction. It reminds us of the mission we have ahead of ourselves and it is an indication of how our work provides support to help solve today’s challenges,” he added.
