Bagge leaves top role at Europen

The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment (Europen) has announced the departure of its recently appointed managing director Véronique Bagge.

Bagge (pictured) took up her position in January this year, succeeding Julian Carroll who had served for 19 years as MD since 1993.

In a statement, Europen said: “Véronique Bagge joined the Brussels secretariat of Europen as managing director in January 2012 with the core task of reviewing its strategy and updating its procedures. That process has now been achieved very satisfactorily with the establishment of updated and improved procedures for accounting and office management, an improved communication strategy and the further development of external relations. Membership of Europen has also been increased. With these successes in place, Véronique will now be leaving the association to take up new challenges.”

Bagge said: “I have achieved what I set out to do and leave the organisation in good shape to confront the significant challenges that lie ahead for the industry. I see many opportunities in the commercial and public affairs arena which I now intend to explore including sustainability issues such as food waste and those relating to my extensive experience in China.”

Europen’s chairman, John Swift of DS Smith, thanked Bagge for her efforts.

He said: “I am grateful to Véronique Bagge for having started a fundamental review of Europen’s strategy and practices, from which the organisation will greatly benefit. We wish Véronique all the best for the future.”

Virginia Janssens, Europen’s EU affairs manager, has been appointed as managing director ad interim.
