Aerosol demand still strong

Demand for aluminium aerosol cans has remained strong in 2012.

According to Aerobal, the International Organisation of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers, total production increased by 4% in the first half of the year.

2011 saw a record production of 6.6 billion aerosol cans. While deliveries to Europe stayed on last year’s record level, demand in North America, Asia and Africa grew further. The driving force of this growth was a lively demand for cosmetics products which account for about 76% of the global total production.

The markets for deodorants, shaving foams, hair sprays and sun protection products performed well, while the market for hair mousses declined slightly. The development of the pharmaceutical market was satisfactory with a two-digit growth. In this market further expansion is expected in future. This also applies for the food market where demand was stable in the first half of 2012. On top of that household products such as air refresheners or insect sprays achieved a solid one-digit growth.

“Despite more difficult economic conditions in several parts of the world, the aluminium aerosol can industry managed to achieve further market growth,“ says Aerobal president Takaaki Takeuchi. “This is due to the superior material properties of aluminium which allow customers far-reaching design freedom with striking shapes and embossings as well as sophisticated printing techniques for exclusive, photo-realistic images.“
