In a landmark step for sustainable packaging in the personal care industry, Ball Corporation, a global leader in sustainable aluminium packaging, has partnered with Brazilian brands Soffie and Aeroflex to launch the first aluminium aerosol cans certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) in the world.
The ASI certification guarantees that the aluminium used in the packaging follows the highest standards in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, from extraction to the final product. By displaying the ASI seal directly on the packaging, the initiative also invites consumers to be part of a more transparent and sustainable supply chain.
“This is more than a launch; it’s a statement of purpose,” said Victoria Marletta, vice president commercial of the personal and home care category at Ball Corporation. “These aerosol cans are a tangible example of how we partner with customers to bring sustainability to the shelf, making it simple, visible, and scalable. Together with Soffie and Aeroflex, we are elevating the industry standard for personal care packaging.”
Soffie’s ASI-certified deodorants, including the new Soffie RUN Live and Soffie RUN Ultra lines, were the first of their kind in the global market. Focused on the running and athletic community, the packaging embodies the vibrant, energetic essence of sports culture with bold design and messaging that resonate with athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
“We are proud to lead by example and be the first in the world with ASI-certified aerosol packaging,” commented Clynton Cortez, founder of Soffie. “Ball has been a true partner in this journey, supporting our mission to combine performance, quality, and environmental responsibility in every product we bring to market.”
Aeroflex, a manufacturer with a broader portfolio of personal care products such as deodorants, hair sprays, dry shampoos, and body sprays, followed closely, to launch the ASI-certified aerosol cans. This milestone reflects the company’s ambition to meet the growing demand for eco-conscious beauty products while maintaining high design standards.
“This achievement reflects our values and our vision for the future,” said Geisa Miksza, executive director at Aeroflex, “Partnering with Ball allowed us to bring innovation and environmental commitment to our customers in a way that is both meaningful and scalable.”
The development of these packaging solutions involved cross-functional collaboration between Ball’s commercial, sustainability, supply chain, and R&D teams to ensure not only the use of certified aluminium but also the accurate and approved application of the ASI logo on the cans.
This initiative is aligned with Ball’s purpose to unlock the infinite potential of aluminium and build a world free from waste. Aluminium is an example of a truly circular material, as it can be recycled again and again into the same type of product, while minimising waste, maintaining its value and its inherent quality. This offers a closed-loop solution for brands that committed to responsibility and innovation. These innovations mark a new chapter in responsible packaging, reinforcing Ball’s commitment to simplifying sustainability for customers and delivering scalable, circular solutions.
