Antares Vision Group, via its technology offered by Applied Vision Corporation, has announced the release of the Genius Orion G6 XL, a next-generation, non-contact food can decoration inspection system engineered for extra-large, smooth or beaded, two- and three-piece cans.
Building on the success of the Genius Orion G6 for beverage cans, the new Orion G6 XL delivers complete 360-degree surface inspection at up to 800 cans per minute, with burst speeds reaching 1,500 cans per minute. The system creates a pristine, unwrapped colour image of each can and compares it to a “gold standard” reference image to ensure perfect print quality and brand consistency.
The XL model introduces expanded can size capability — handling can diameters from 99 to 153mm, and a maximum height of 237mm — along with a new barcode reader achieving over 99.7% read accuracy.
“Orion G6 XL extends the precision and reliability of our Genius inspection technology to a new class of extra-large food cans,” said Walter Calabrini, metal container inspection product manager. “It provides can makers and decorators with the speed, accuracy, and scalability they need to maintain brand quality across every production run.”
Orion G6 XL identifies a wide range of defects including colour shifts, registration errors, flakes, chips and dents — automatically rejecting any can that falls outside tolerance.
Fully CE compliant and powered by the Genius software platform, Orion G6 XL integrates seamlessly with existing conveyor systems for fast setup and reliable operation.
