County Durham, UK based Sugoi Consulting, a technical and commercial consultancy serving the global metal packaging industry, has appointed Dave Turner as its technical adviser. This follows the recent appointment of technical manager, John Robson.
Turner joins with 35 years of technical experience in the metal packaging industry. Working alongside John Robson, he will support on the delivery of legacy equipment projects, bespoke development work and technical purchasing.
The appointment comes as Sugoi Consulting faces growing demand for bespoke work, including recent client approaches for entirely new solutions and applications beyond the company’s traditional remit.
The agile team, which combined has decades of experience across mechanical engineering, machine assembly, component machining, design and technical management, is able to operate quickly and standardise processes as they go. This is enabling work to be turned around in hours, rather than the previous time of days.
Turner’s appointment reunites a partnership that dates back many years, as he originally hired both managing director, Alan Rutter and John Robson, for roles at Crabtree, a metal-decorating equipment manufacturer. Turner and Rutter worked closely together and travelled to customer sites around the world combining their technical and sales skills.
Dave Turner commented: “I employed both of them, so I’ve known Alan and John for a long time and it’s great to be back working together.
“Sugoi Consulting is an exciting place to be right now, and I’m looking forward to assisting with some significant new projects.”
The appointment also reflects a wider concern about expertise leaving the sector. Sugoi Consulting’s model is built on retaining that expertise rather than allowing decades of technical understanding to disappear from the industry.
Alan Rutter, managing director at Sugoi Consulting, also added: “Dave brings a wealth of experience, a black book of contacts built over three decades, and part numbers for proprietary machines dating back to the 1970s – all still in his head. That knowledge doesn’t exist in any manual or database.
“His long-standing relationships with our suppliers make him well suited to our strategic, multi-supplier approach. He is able to support by profiling each job, including where we can source what we need, how long it takes and the quality we can expect. It’s specific every time.
“We want to build something sustainable for the long haul. That means adding knowledge, adding quality and surrounding ourselves with the best people.”
It’s a significant time for Sugoi Consulting as the company continues to grow in bespoke and legacy equipment solutions, underpinned by its in-house design. It is also looking to further develop its work with international partners across China, Turkey and wider markets, all of which will be supported as it looks to make further specialist appointments to support project delivery and improve client response times.
