Amcor launches new aluminium bowls

Amcor has launched a new range of aluminium bowls under the trade name Canny.

With its easy peelable membrane, Canny really makes opening child’s play, and young and old alike will enjoy the convenience of a soft and spillage-free opening. The absence of sharp edges removes any risk of injury and makes Canny ideal for taking the food directly out of the bowl with a spoon or simply with fingers.

Designed to package food portions of approximately 100, 115 or 140 ml, Canny targets the market of on-the-go and indulgence products where both lightweight and convenience are strongly involved in the buying decision.

Aluminium cups have been on the market for decades but Amcor’s Canny delivers an innovation to the market which will open up new opportunities – it is the first wrinkle-free thin wall aluminum bowl with a fully printable surface.

“We are very proud to be able to bring the thinnest deep drawn aluminium bowl completely free of wrinkles on the market,” comments Albert Bijsterbosch, head of R&D at Amcor Flexibles Zutphen, “We have been working over two years with our R&D team to remove every wrinkle from our bowl. The result is a shiny and smooth surface with great haptics.”

This technological step creates new presentation possibilities and helps the product to stand out on the shelves.

From an environmental standpoint, Canny ideally supports the efforts of the brands to reduce packaging weight as it is more than 30 per cent lighter than a standard aluminium bowl with ring-pull. Since the empty bowls are nestable, their transport saves up to 90 per cent on space compared to existing metal solutions.

After use, Canny can be easily compacted by hand, helping consumers to reduce the volume of their garbage. The inside coating of Canny is Bisphenol A (BPA) free which is a great progress for food safety in metal packaging.
