Conference line-up revealed

The lineup for this year’s Metpack Conference has been revealed.

The Metpack Conference will take place on Tuesday May 11 from 8am to 1pm.

Focusing on Modern Can Technology, the conference will feature eight speakers who will be presenting the latest research results and new manufacturing technologies all relating to metal packaging in 2011.

The main subjects will be the further optimisation of the tinplate surface and its coatings as well as recent technologies in can making.

Visitors will gain an insight into the latest findings from the scientific and economic fields. The programme will aim to link information from theory and practice in a sensible way.

Dr Ulrich Roeske, chairman of the executive board at packaging steel producer Rasselstein, will open the conference. His colleague Dr Martin Schlupp, product engineer, will then kick off proceedings with a presentation titled ‘New type of oiling that improves wettability of tinplate surface’.

Zhang Guo Xing, general manager of Jiang Yin Ruixing Science and Technology Company, will give a presentation entitled ‘Lamination technology with weld margins for three-piece can making’.

Dr Bernd Ullmann, business development manager Mall + Herlan (Germany), will discuss thin-walled aerosol cans and beverage bottles.

Stefania Gelati, a researcher at Stazione Sperimentale per l’Industria delle Conserve Alimentari – SSICA (Italy), will talk about the main mechanical properties of metal cans for food in relation to employment requirements.

Dr Ulrich Nehring, managing director Institut Nehring (Germany), is giving a presentation entitled ‘Food contact coatings and NIAS – How to prove legal compliance?’

Francois Chevalley, manager technology and customer services Soudronic AG (Switzerland) will speak about ring-pull solutions for all types of peel-off ends.

William Geller, general manager North America, Quality by Vision (Israel) will give a presentation entitled ‘From controlling quality to producing quality: New methods and technologies for improvement of the seaming process’.

To complete proceedings, Rodrigo Vazquez, senior analyst Steel Market, Harbor Intelligence (Mexico) will talk about the main trends behind the latest tinplate prices.

The largest metal packaging show in the world takes place between May 10 and 14 in Essen, Germany.
