A teenage girl shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girl’s educations is to be presented with a prestigious award.

Malala Yousafzai (pictured) is due to, on 6 September, to receive the 2013 International Children’s Peace Prize, which includes a €100,000 project fund sponsored by AkzoNobel

The 16-year-old Afghan girl will be awarded her prize by Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman.

The award run by the Dutch KidsRights Foundation awarded Yousafzai who aged 11 wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC highlighting her passion for school and the oppression of the Taliban in Pakistan.

Following an attempt on her life by the Taliban she was severely wounded and fled to England, where she now lives and goes to school.

“We share the opinion of KidsRights that every child should have the opportunity to develop his or her talents.” said AkzoNobel chief executive Ton Büchner.
