Open letter from aluminium industry sent to heads of state
EOs and leaders of the aluminium industry in Europe have signed an open letter addressed to the Heads of States and governments in view of the European Summit on 20-21 March and successive institutional deadlines.
According to the signatories, the European Summit should mark a decisive step for Europe to align its EU industrial, climate and energy policies and prevent further de-industrialisation and investment leakage.
The letter states that the aluminium industry is willing to renew its commitment and continue its efforts to remain a competitive and sustainable industry for Europe. However, enabling policies must be put in place and some perverse effects of existing EU rules need to be urgently addressed.
The view is that the retention of the industry offers the biggest potential in terms of growth, jobs but also for sustainability and resource efficiency goals.
