Wuhan Baosteel receives order for 20m cans

Chinese can maker Baosteel Packaging has gained an order of 20 million cans of Qingdao beer shortly after entering the high-end beer market.

The company’s plant at Wuhan started production in February and is the first to make aluminium cans. It is Baosteel Packaging’s fifth plant. Baosteel’s other four plants – all making steel beverage cans – are at Shanghai, Tangshan, Chengdu and Fousan.

Recently the first batch of Qingdao beer in aluminium cans manufactured by Baosteel was off line in Qingdao Beer’s Hunan production base.

Baosteel’s customer base includes producers of renowned brands of cola, tea and beer.

Within just three months after the trial production started, Wuhan Baosteel successively received the certifications and orders of Wahaha, Coca Cola and Pepsi. Since the high-end canned beer market has higher requirements for the quality, sealing property and package of pop-top cans, Wuhan Baosteel has aimed to continuously improve technology to satisfy customers’ demand.

In May, Qingdao Beer sent people to the workshops of Wuhan Baosteel for examination and certification. The company then received the supplier’s certification of Qingdao Beer and the order for 20 million cans in the second half of the year.
