Joint venture invests in Johannesburg factory

GZ Industries and Golden Era Packaging have signed a joint venture agreement to set up a factory which will produce up to 1.2 billion cans a year in Johannesburg.

The company will be known as Gayatri GZI Beverage can and intends to meet the growing demand for beer and other alcoholic and soft drinks in Southern Africa.

The factory will manufacture two-piece aluminium beverage cans in multiple sizes, using state of the art technology, with production hoping to begin late next year.

Motti Goldmintz, CEO of GZ Industries, says: “GZI is committed to its strategy of becoming sub-Saharan Africa’s largest packaging solution provider to the beverage industry.

“We have an aggressive acquisition strategy in sub-Saharan Africa and strongly believe that Golden Era are ideal partners to help us achieve our pan-African vision.”

Peter Baird, GZI board spokesman, adds: “The South African joint venture will employ 80 to 100 workers in its first phase of production. This is expected to increase to about 150 within the next two years.

“We already have all the machinery and are finalising civil engineering and construction.”
