Kerbside scheme leads to increase in metal recycling
Metalmatters has announced the results of a groundbreaking pilot project designed to increase kerbside metal recycling rates. The project, conducted in conjunction with two local authorities in the UK, delivered significant results including a 12.9% increase in metals recycled in the biggest trial area of 54,283 households.
Rexam achieves record results for 2010
Strong beverage can sales helped Rexam achieve an underlying profit of 45% in 2010. Profit before tax increased to £412m from £285m in 2009 on sales up 2% to £4.96bn. Total sales in 2009 stood at £4.86bn. Profit from continuing operations including one-offs rose to £338m from £134m.

Conway confident as beverage can sales help improve Crown’s results
The chief executive of can making company Crown expects a “busy and promising” 2011 following the release of its final year results. Higher unit sales of beverage and food cans worldwide helped to improve margins at the company with beverage can sales unit volumes rising 13% and food can volumes up 5% in the fourth quarter.
Ball reports strong full-year results
Ball Corporation has reported an increase in sales in its results for 2010 – thanks in part to double-digit volume growth in China and Brazil. The company’s net earnings from continuing operations were $542.9 million, on sales of $7.6 billion, compared to $390.1 million, on sales of $6.7 billion in 2009.
