Orora sees successful impact of ‘right weighting’ programme

Orora, Australia-headquartered global leader in the design, manufacture and decoration of aluminium cans and glass bottles, has reported that its ‘right weighting’ programme proves that reducing the body weights of its beverage cans is possible.
In FY25, Orora successfully reduced the gross body weight of its 375ml aluminium cans by ~4%.
Even a modest change, when applied at scale, can make a big impact. Less aluminium per can means less raw material per production and a lighter product moving through the supply chain across every unit produced.
As Orora works toward completion of its cans capacity expansion in Australia, the company continues to invest in sustainable growth and innovation solutions, including the commitment and enablement of right weighting cans.
Right weighting doesn’t change what’s inside the can or how it performs. It simply reduces the amount of material needed to make it, helping support Orora customers’ decarbonisation goals across Australia and New Zealand.
Along with its suppliers and customers, Orora continues to work towards increasing recycled content. In FY25, the company achieved 78% recycled content across the aluminium it purchased for cans – well on track to reach its 80% target by 2030.
Together, these initiatives reflect Orora’s long term commitment to sustainable manufacturing and ensuring aluminium cans continue to grow in popularity for an increasingly sustainability conscious consumer, the company said.
