The road ahead

We’ve just closed our November edition of the magazine, which should be available to subscribers very soon.

It explores how leaders and decision-makers in the industry are looking to energise the metal packaging market, reflecting on industry event highlights from the past few months, including the Global Aluminium Can Sustainability Summit and the IMDPA’s Annual Conference. Investments in AI, data reporting and energy-saving technologies are crucial in the path to success, along with forming robust business partnerships, and in this industry, there are many.

Decarbonisation is a huge concept and it is clear the industry must set itself ambitious yet achievable goals in this area. Even during a meeting I had this morning for Bell’s apprenticeship provider, LDN, we discussed how sustainability is no longer a trend, but a ‘must-have’ in any business.

But moving on from the concepts of unity and progress to perhaps the biggest news of all this week: yesterday’s US election result. Journalistic integrity perhaps won’t permit me so say everything I’d like to, but know that we will of course be providing CanTech readers with the potential impact of Trump’s presidency on the global metal packaging industry. There are many supposed tariffs to consider, from goods and material imported to the US, so we will cover how these might affect sourcing and trade from other countries worldwide.

On the other side of that, lower taxes have been promised for large corporations; the impact of this will also be analysed by correspondents going forward but could potentially lead to more investments in the country, though in what capacity is uncertain. Much is yet to be determined.

What is crucial is that metal packaging continues to strive for the status of the most sustainable packaging choice, with businesses maintaining supply chain transparency, and upholding excellence through championing innovation and diversity.
