It’s common sense people

When it comes to used and refurbished equipment, it’s a common sense choice as far as I can see.

What are you in the market for? Is it really worth your while to purchase a brand new machine if a used or refurbished one will suffice? Do you need the latest technology, or is an existing piece of kit perfectly adequate for your needs?

These are all questions you will doubtless be asking yourself if you intend to replace a piece of expensive equipment. And why wouldn’t you? The outlay for equipment related to the metal packaging industry is not a small one, and careful consideration must be given to any purchasing decisions in this area.

There are many different aspects to look at if you really sit down and think about it. For example, do you have access to skilled technical staff who are capable of maintaining and repairing your machinery? If you do, then perhaps a used or refurbished model is best suited to you. But then, does the staff cost for these skilled employees wipe out the savings you will make on the less expensive refurbed machine?

Maybe you would be better off buying new, and having the comfort blanket of a full manufacturers warranty to fall back on should something go wrong, or perhaps that re-manufactured machine comes with the same guarantee?

In our next issue, I speak with a number of industry professionals who have expertise in this area. If you’re looking for advice when it comes to new purchases, make sure you take a minute to read the piece.
