Robert Beltz, the president of Apeal (The Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging), will speak at a debate on metal’s sustainability at the European Parliament next Tuesday (24 January).

Beltz (pictured) is contributing to a debate titled ‘Metal’s contribution to a resource efficient Europe’, which has been organised by Metal Packaging Europe (MPE).

The event officially launches MPE in Brussels as the umbrella organisation of metal packaging associations in Europe. It intends to raise awareness of the concept of metal as a permanent material with 100% recycling potential and call upon all stakeholders, policy makers and legislators to work together towards a truly recycling society.

Beltz will focus on the environmental, economic and social benefits of recycling steel and demonstrate how the steel for packaging industry is an important and enthusiastic partner in achieving this true recycling society.

The event is being hosted by Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy MEP and is supported by the European Commissioner for the environment, Janez Potočnik. Participation is expected from different associations, industry representatives, policy makers and NGO’s.
