Hindustan Tin to launch Canvironment Week 2011

Indian can maker Hindustan Tin Works is planning to officially kick off proceedings for Canvironment Week 2011 during the Metpack and Interpack trade fairs in Germany next month.

Canvironment Week, a campaign aimed at spreading awareness about the eco-friendly benefits of cans, took place for the first time last year.

Can makers, industry leaders and government bodies will help mark the launch of this year’s campaign by ringing a “sustainability bell” at both Metpack and Interpack.

The Metpack launch is scheduled to take place on 11 May, at Hindustan Tin Works (HTW) stand F21, in Hall 1, Essen, Germany at 3.30pm.

At Interpack the campaign will be launched on 15 May, at the Metal Packaging Forum hosted by Empac (Stand A48, Hall 11). The launch will take place at 12 noon and will follow a presentation by Canvironment Week president Atit Bhatia (pictured) who will be sharing his experiences from Canvironment Week 2010 and his vision for the initiative.

Last year’s event featured a week of events in three Indian cities, which culminated in the celebration of Nicholas Appert, who was the originator of food preservation. Taking a lead from both World Recycling Day and World Environment Day, Canvironment Week is the first event of its kind in the can making world to promote sustainability where can makers from various countries conduct parallel activities that are linked together under a global umbrella.
