Tubex wins packaging award for can printed with natural ink

The Tubex team with the 'Cien pure & fresh' deodorant cans

Tubex has been awarded with the German Packaging Award 2021 in the sustainability category for its ‘Cien pure & fresh’ deodorant.

The deodorant, a brand from German retailer Lidl, is the first can in the world to be printed with natural ink, according to Tubex.

The printing ink from PURe is free of mineral oil, palm oil, soy bean oil and coconut oil. Binding agents of the ink are based on renewable resources without further chemical modifications. PURe and Tubex worked closely together to develop the sustainable printing ink for aluminium.

The can is 6% lighter than the previous design due to the used patented alloy with up to 25% real PCR inclusion – up to 60% PCR inclusion is possible. The PCR used is from recycled consumer waste.

The water-based over-varnish emits 60% less solvents than a standard top coat and complements the sustainability of the can.

The German Packaging Award is under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energie.
