Courtney to head up the Can Makers
Geoff Courtney has been appointed chairman of the Can Makers, an industry body which represents the UK manufacturers of beer and carbonated soft drinks.
Courtney (pictured) has more than 20 years experience in the packaging industry and takes over from Vince Major, who has held the position since 2009.
A long standing member of the Can Makers, Courtney has been involved with the can industry for more than 15 years, joining Impress Metal Packaging (now Ardagh) as an account manager for the General Line Cans out of Norwich in 1996. In 1998, he joined Ball Packaging Europe as an account manager for the UK, progressing into a UK and key account European role in 2004 before being promoted to head up the UK and Eire sales team at the beginning of 2009.
Courtney is also on the Editorial Board of CanTech International.
Talking about his appointment, he said: “I am looking forward to my new role as chairman. One of the major focuses in my term will be championing initiatives centred on recycling that we have implemented, contributed to or supported in the last few years and continue their expansion. Educating consumers, manufacturers and businesses alike is key to ensuring the reduction of our carbon footprint for the future. Other key focuses will be showcasing technological advancements, design and convenience.”
