Crown launches sleek format in Asia

Can maker Crown has announced the commercialisation of two sites in southeast Asia.

The facilities are in Nong Khae, Thailand and Da Nang, Vietnam.

The Nong Khae plant will begin producing beverage cans on one line this month, with the aim of annual production capacity to be 500 million two-piece 33cl aluminum cans.

Frank Koh, vice-president beverage cans southeast Asia, Crown Asia Pacific, said, “We have found there is growing demand and increasing consumer preference for beverages packaged in aluminum cans in Thailand.

“In response to that, our new plant will also have the ability to produce 50cl beverage cans and 33cl sleek cans.

“This is the first time Crown will be producing the sleek format in Asia, and it is part of Crown’s strategy to offer more options for both local and regional customers who are looking to refresh their packaging mix.”

Koh added that in the wake of the terrible floods that hit Thailand in 2011 and affected many local industries, Crown would stick by its initial investment in the country, and was firm about re-commencing its developments in the area.

Nearby in Vietnam, Crown’s Da Nang plant started commercial production in early May, with one can line in operation and an initial production capacity of 720 million 33cl cans.

The Da Nang facility is Crown’s fourth beverage can plant in Vietnam, the company also operates one facility in Hanoi and two in Ho Chi Minh City.
