Asia CanTech Award winners
The much anticipated Asia CanTech awards took place in Bangkok on day two of Asia CanTech and the winners were as follows.
Two-piece Beverage – STI Can – Fermented Dairy Drink
This product was put forward due to its intricate decoration and methods employed for printing on laminated aluminium. This can represents the first time this company has used laser engraved printing plates, enabling them to achieve a stunning image quality using eight colours.
Decorative / Speciality – Tin Box Asia Pacific – Incredible Hulk Money Tin
The next product caught the judges’ eye due to its unique character. It isn’t often you see a tin with arms, but this product combines unique shaping and clever artwork to achieve an instantly recognisable character-based container. The Supreme Award was awarded to Tin Box Asia Pacific for its unique Incredible Hulk tin.
Three-piece beverage – Swan Industries – Guava Drink Can
This company, based here in Thailand, was founded in 1965 and has become an important producer of easy-open ends, beverage cans, two and three-piece food cans and general line cans.
The judges were particularly impressed with the quality of this product, noting the clarity of the fruit and the clean appearance overall.
Food – Three-Piece – Sinar Djaja Can – Kapal Awi Luwak Coffee Can
The quality of entries continues to impress each year in all categories and three-piece food was no exception.
The container in question is produced for a unique brand of coffee, namely Kapal Api Luwak blend. The can features transparent coffee beans and leaves and is fitted with an easy-open-end.
General Line – Tinpak – Stockholm Tea Can
Manufactured for English breakfast teas, the winning can has an outstanding finish and intricate decoration, depicting the city of Stockholm. The judges were surprised to learn that it was printed using just four colours and were unanimous in their decision to award the general line award to Tinpak Ltd.
Innovation – Hindustan Tin Works – Window Can
After much deliberation, the judges decided on a container with many and varied qualities. The most impressive of which is a see-through window on the can body itself.
Designed and developed for Innopac, this product is ideal for daily use for the storage of dry products.
Ends, caps & closures – Crown Food Packaging Thailand – 83 dia ProLift Steel Easy Open End
Our final category was ends, caps & closures and, again, we will be asking the winner of this award to return to the stage once more.
This innovative, steel easy open end is called Prolift – and combines many features such as an aluminium tab to reduce corrosion and a special cordial score which allows the can to be opened even if the tab is turned up to 30 degrees.
