Production at Tata Steel’s tinplate works in Trostre, Wales, will stop for one week next month. More than 700 staff will be deployed to other areas like maintenance and training.
Novelis expands in Asia

Can making giant Crown has announced plans to expand its footprint in China by building two new beverage can plants. The company is also adding a second line at a plant that is being built now.
Novelis reports strong results
Novelis, the world’s leading producer of aluminium rolled products, has reported strong results in the quarter up to the end of June. Higher shipments, conversion premiums and metal prices lifted sales in the quarter, the first of fiscal 2012, to $3.1 billion, up by 23% compared with the same period last year.
Rexam and HTW to double can production in India
Rexam, the global consumer packaging company, and leading Indian can maker Hindustan Tin Works will double production of beverage cans at their site in Taloja, close to Mumbai. A new high-speed beverage can manufacturing line will be built at the site.

Novelis announces expansion plans in South Korea
Aluminium manufacturer Novelis has announced that it will invest US$400 million in the expansion of its aluminium rolling and recycling operations in South Korea.
Supplier excellence recognised by Rexam
Rexam Beverage Can Europe & Asia recently held its annual supplier awards ceremony in the UK. The awards recognised supplier excellence throughout 2010 and took place at Sopwell House in St Albans. More than 100 guests, including 40 suppliers, attended the event.
Crown’s first-quarter results lifted by global beverage can sales
Leading can maker Crown has reported first quarter sales of US$1.88 billion, an increase of 5.9% compared with the same period in 2010. Beverage can sales were up in the Americas region, reaching $540m, while in Europe sales were up to $340m compared to £314m during the same period in 2010.
Rexam to build new can plant in Brazil
Rexam has announced that it will build a new beverage can plant close to the city of Belem, Northern Brazil. The plant will have a capacity of 1.2 billion cans and is expected to be operational by mid 2012.
