Canvironment Week wins Empac Challenge

Posted on 3 June 2011 | No comments

European Metal Packaging (Empac), the association which brings together European producers of rigid metal packaging, announced the winner of its €10,000 student competition at Interpack.

Atit Bhatia of Hindustan Tin Works won the Empac Challenge for his unfailing passion and commitment to the Canvironment Week project, a global initiative to promote metal packaging for a greener future. He received the €10,000 prize, which will go towards Canvironment Week 2011. The independent panel who chose the winner were unanimous in their selection.

Developments in metal packaging in recent years have included reduced thickness of the metal thus making cans considerably lighter in weight, improved shaping and printing techniques giving vibrancy and differentiation to brands and revolutionary opening systems for consumer convenience. The can has a long shelf life, and for food products, it protects its contents from light, oxygen and bacteria, retaining all nutrients and requiring no refrigeration.
