Rexam’s Wakefield plant wins awards

Rexam’s beverage can plant in Wakefield, UK, won two awards at a ceremony that recognised the success of local businesses.

The company won the ‘Business of the Year’ award at the Wakefield Express Business Awards, which took place recently at Cedar Wood Hotel, Wakefield.

It was due to Rexam’s continued success in the beverage can sector, delivering innovation and skill in all aspects of their business that it was chosen for the award.

The firm was also the winner of the ‘Business and Environment’ award given to companies most actively committed to sound environmental practice and demonstrating an awareness of protecting resources. Rexam was chosen as the winner due to its numerous achievements in sustainability over recent years including using 6,500 tonnes less of aluminium in 2010 compared to 2009, as well as its continued support of the ‘Every Can Counts’ programme which promotes ‘on the go’ can recycling in the UK, France and Austria.

Michael Waite, plant manager at Rexam Wakefield, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win these prestigious awards. As a business we are always working hard to ensure we remain a leader in our field, and are honoured that Wakefield Express have recognised and rewarded our efforts. We will continue to ensure our business remains aware of environmental and sustainability issues and maintains our position as Europe’s leading beverage can manufacturer.”
