Novelis to expand recycling capacity in Brazil
Novelis, the world’s largest producer of rolled aluminium, is set to invest approximately $32 million to expand recycling capacity at its aluminium rolling and recycling complex in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil.
Crown reports strong results
Crown Holdings reported strong third quarter results with global beverage can unit volumes rising by three per cent. For the three months to the end of September net sales were up 9.9% at US$2,423 million, mainly driven by the pass through of raw material costs.

Silgan to supply cans to Nestlé
Can maker Silgan has acquired Nestlé Purina PetCare Company’s steel can making assets for its pet food products. As part of the deal, the US company has also entered into a long-term supply agreement with Nestlé Purina PetCare Company.

Envases buys up Danish can maker
Danish can maker Glud & Marstrand has been acquired by Mexican packaging group Envases Universales. The deal, which was completed on 1 July, is subject to the normal closing conditions.
New aerosol plant opened by Unilever
Unilever has opened a new state-of-the-art aerosol plant in Mexico. The new factory will accelerate the growth agenda in North and Central America – and will double the national production of deodorants.
Bolton appointed president of Crown’s NA aerosol division
Andy Bolton has been named president of Crown Aerosol Packaging North America. He previously served as vice president/general manager – strategic accounts at Amcor Rigid Plastics North America.
Campbell’s Soup appoints new CEO
Food and drinks giant Campbell Soup has appointed Denise Morrison as its new president and chief executive officer. She will take over from Douglas Conant on August 1. Conant will step down after more than a decade in the role. He will also leave Campbell’s board of directors.
Silgan could lose out in bid to buy company
Can maker Silgan could lose out in its bid to buy Graham Packaging after an unnamed company bettered its offer. Yesterday (13 June), Graham informed Silgan that it had “received an unsolicited proposal from a private non-investment grade company to acquire all of the shares of Graham Packaging for $25 per share in cash”.
