Blackstone cleared to buy Mivisa

The European Commission has cleared the purchase of Spain’s leading can making company Mivisa by private equity group Blackstone. Mivisa is a Spanish company that manufactures and supplies metal food cans. Blackstone is a US based global asset manager and provider of financial advisory services.

Cool feature added to cans of Busch Light

Brewer Anheuser-Busch has launched Busch Light in cans that show when the beer is cool enough for drinking. Chromatic Technologies Inc (CTI), a specialised inks company, has provided the technology in the form of a temperature indicator that turns blue when the beverage has chilled to the perfect drinking temperature.

Heristo’s products enhanced by Crown’s easy-open ends

One of the leading food canners and private label suppliers in Germany has teamed up with Crown Food Europe to incorporate Easylift easy-open ends on its products. Heristo is promoting convenience for its products by incorporating the easy-open ends on its Buss range of ready meals and soup and its Saturn pet food products.

University students encouraged to recycle

A recycling initiative developed by Every Can Counts is encouraging students to recycle beverage cans at universities – in return for the opportunity to watch films. Known as the Can Film Festival, the initiative has been developed in conjunction with the National Union of Students, and rewards students with the opportunity to watch films, for free, by bringing along empty beverage cans to be recycled.

Crown to build Brazilian can plant in Belem

Crown Embalagens, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, has announced that it will build a beverage can plant in Belem, Northern Brazil. The plant will produce two-piece aluminium beverage cans in multiple sizes and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2012.
