New ‘handy can’ size from Ball
A new compact can has been launched by Ball Packaging Europe. Pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi are the first drinks to be sold in the new 25cl format in the UK. The shorter and more compact 25cl can format is designed to stand out from the normal and attract attention at the point of sale.

Cans offer augmented reality
Ball Packaging Europe has developed a unique promotional campaign for the Edeka Hessenring grocery chain. The company’s augmented-reality technology allows teenage smart phone users to grab the images of cans and activate an animated character for use in images of friends.
Second filler to use wine in can technology
French filler Cacolac has signed a contract with Australian company Barokes licensing them to fill wine in a can using Vinsafe technology. The Vinsafe process is the only wine-in-a-can packaging system, combining long shelf life with high product quality and managed by global patents.

Asia CanTech attendees will be given the opportunity to visit Crown’s plant in Saigon. Crown Asia Pacific will have control over who visits the plant and places may be limited.
Ball’s Deeside plant achieves zero waste to landfill target
Another of Ball Packaging Europe’s plants has achieved zero waste to landfill. John Griffiths AM, Welsh Government Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, visited Ball’s can end facility in Deeside, UK, on Tuesday (26 July).

Just Pure Water in cans from Ball
A pure water-based drink has been launched in cans made by Ball Corporation. New Age Beverage, which is based in Denver, has launched Just Pure Water in Colorado and Arizona in the US using 24oz cans.

Ball has announced the launch of its newest can size – the 8oz trim can. The small, lightweight can is ideal for juices and other beverages for portion-conscious consumers, and is unbreakable, quick-chilling and 100% recyclable.

Australian company Barokes has announced the appointment of wine consultant and Master of Wine, Philip Goodband. Barokes has been developing wine in cans, and Goodband has been appointed to help promote its technology.

Gihan Atapattu, president of Ball Asia Pacific, is the first keynote speaker confirmed for Asia CanTech Vietnam 2011. Atapattu has been at Ball for just over a year after joining the company from SML Group (Hong Kong) where he was chief executive officer for three years.
