US schools receive recycling rewards

Schools in the US recycled more than 2.3 million aluminium beverage cans through a new national recycling competition sponsored by the can industry. The schools competed in the Great American Can Roundup (GACR) – School Challenge, a national competition sponsored by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), the trade association representing can makers and their suppliers.

Can industry raises money for charity

A number of US can plants helped collect and recycle approximately 140 million aluminium beverage cans and subsequently raised more than $150,000 (€108,700) for charities across the country. Organised by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), the America Recycles Day Challenge, took place over 76 days and involved can companies and aluminium suppliers.
