Brasilata launches steel pail for plaster
Can making company Brasilata has launched a recyclable steel pail which can be used as a container for plaster. According to Brasilata, a good portion of the plaster market has been looking for lower cost packaging alternatives, especially to meet the lower income market needs.
Steel maker to halt production for a week
Production at Tata Steel’s tinplate works in Trostre, Wales, will stop for one week next month. More than 700 staff will be deployed to other areas like maintenance and training.
New lid offers easier opening
Danish can maker Glud & Marstrand has launched a plastic laminated aluminium lid for rectangular meat cans. The new easyALUtop has been designed to reduce the opening force of a can.

Conference line-up revealed
The lineup for this year’s Metpack Conference has been revealed. Focusing on Modern Can Technology, the conference will feature eight speakers who will be presenting the latest research results and new manufacturing technologies all relating to metal packaging in 2011.

A tinplate canister designed by artist Michelangelo Pistoletto is the latest to adorn the Illycaffè range of Illy Art ceramic cups and limited edition cans.
Blackstone cleared to buy Mivisa
The European Commission has cleared the purchase of Spain’s leading can making company Mivisa by private equity group Blackstone. Mivisa is a Spanish company that manufactures and supplies metal food cans. Blackstone is a US based global asset manager and provider of financial advisory services.
Canvironment Week wins environmental award
Hindustan Tin Work’s Canvironment Week has been awarded the Environment Initiative of the Year Award at Ambrosia Indspirit 2010. Ambrosia Indspirit is an Alcobev trade event in Asia. This year it was held in Mumbai, India.
