Crown’s laser-etched tabs used for World Cup promotion

Can maker Crown has revealed that laser-etched tabs used on Coca-Cola drinks cans as part of its FIFA World Cup promotion in the Middle East, could be used on other beverage brands around the world. Coca-Cola launched its 2010 FIFA World Cup promotion on beverage cans using the tabs from Crown Bevcan Europe & Middle East.

OKL expands into Brazil

OKL Can Line, a supplier of equipment to the beverage can industry, has expanded into Brazil. The US company has signed an agreement with Canpar to service OKL customers in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. It will be headed up by Andreia Cardoso.

Lieb joins Sandvik

David Lieb has joined Sandvik as business development manager for can tooling. Lieb has 30 years of experience in the can industry giving him extensive knowledge of the can making process, including machinery, tooling, materials and lubrication.

Whisky in a can could be banned in Scotland

A new canned whisky, which is on sale in the Caribbean and South America, has come in for criticism from the Scotch Whisky Association. Panama-based company Scottish Spirits has launched the 33cl aluminium cans, the first time straight whisky has been sold in a can.

Frauman joins APEAL

Evelyne Frauman has been appointed quality and environment manager for the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (APEAL). APEAL is a federation of four multi-national producers of steel for packaging ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel Packaging, Rasselstein-ThyssenKrupp and US Steel Kosiçe.
