Cans of Coors Light to feature new cold indicator
Cans and bottles of Coors Light will feature a new design which indicates when the beer reaches the “peak of refreshment”. As part of its upcoming Super Cold Summer, brewer Miller Coors is debuting its latest cold-acticated technology: New Coors Light two-stage super cold activation, which makes it easy to see when the beer goes from cold to super cold.
Back on track
The latest statistics from BCME (Beverage Can Makers Europe) show that despite tough economic conditions last year, there was strong growth in the beverage can market in Europe. In 2010, the European beverage can market hit 54.1 billion cans, up 5.2 per cent from 2009. The UK market fared particuarly well and reached an important milestone in 2010, passing the nine billion can mark, up seven per cent on 2009.
New ‘chalice’ can from Stella Artois
Stella Artois, the world’s best-selling Belgian beer, is now available in a unique 440ml aluminum can. The sleek, silver can features the silhouette of Stella Artois’ signature chalice glass.
Cool feature added to cans of Busch Light
Brewer Anheuser-Busch has launched Busch Light in cans that show when the beer is cool enough for drinking. Chromatic Technologies Inc (CTI), a specialised inks company, has provided the technology in the form of a temperature indicator that turns blue when the beverage has chilled to the perfect drinking temperature.
US brewing company starts using cans
Baxter Brewing Company has become the first craft brewery in New England, US, to can its entire line of beers. Located in the historic Bates Mill in Lewiston, Maine, Baxter beers will be distributed throughout the state of Maine and are expected to expand into the rest of northern New England throughout this year and into 2012.
Crown to build Brazilian can plant in Belem
Crown Embalagens, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, has announced that it will build a beverage can plant in Belem, Northern Brazil. The plant will produce two-piece aluminium beverage cans in multiple sizes and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2012.
Limited edition cans celebrate history of Coors brand
US brewer Coors is celebrating the history of its Banquet beer brand with the release of four commemorative cans that will be available until the end of March. The limited edition cans went on sale in the US at the start of February.
Revellers to drink from cans at Cologne festival
Carnival revellers in Cologne will be drinking from cans after the town council put a ban on glass. The town council has responded after many carnival revellers repeatedly stepped or fell into shards of glass. They now consider the risk of injury posed by glass shards too high after the streets were strewn with empty glass bottles and splinters in previous years.
Courtney to head up the Can Makers
Geoff Courtney has been appointed chairman of the Can Makers, an industry body which represents the UK manufacturers of beer and carbonated soft drinks. Courtney has more than 20 years experience in the packaging industry and takes over from Vince Major, who has held the position since 2009.
Crown helps maintain color consistency on Molson beer cans
Crown Beverage Packaging North America, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, is helping Molson Coors Canada streamline its printing process in an effort to ensure that cans of beer are more faithfully colour matched across the company’s packaging.
