Can sales increase in Europe

Beverage can sales increased by 6% in Europe during the first half of 2011 compared with the same period of 2010, according to industry association Beverage Can Makers Europe. Soft drinks were the main benefactors of the good weather conditions with a healthy increase in sales of 8% on the comparable period in the first half of 2010.

MP visits British can making plant

British Member of Parliament Mark Lancaster recently visited Rexam Beverage Can’s Milton Keynes plant to gain an insight into can making first hand. The plant visit allowed Mr Lancaster, who is the MP for Milton Keynes North, the opportunity to gain a better understanding of both the workings of the plant itself and Rexam as a company.

Used equipment dealers join forces

The two largest used can making machinery dealers have joined forces to offer a one stop shop for can makers around the world. US based Container Fabrication Machinery (CFM) and MEM Holland have agreed to share technical knowledge, support and their available inventory to can makers.

Personal care drives aerosol growth

UK aerosol fillings increased by 3.3% over the previous year, according to the latest annual figures from the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA). The data, released by the trade body yesterday (1 June), highlights the success of the metal pack format.

Improved recycling rates in Europe

Apeal (the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging) has revealed that the recycling rate in Europe for steel food and beverage cans has risen again. Figures revealed at packaging show Interpack demonstrate how recycling rates of steel packaging for Europe in 2009 increased by two per cent to reach more than 72 per cent.

Back on track

The latest statistics from BCME (Beverage Can Makers Europe) show that despite tough economic conditions last year, there was strong growth in the beverage can market in Europe. In 2010, the European beverage can market hit 54.1 billion cans, up 5.2 per cent from 2009. The UK market fared particuarly well and reached an important milestone in 2010, passing the nine billion can mark, up seven per cent on 2009.

Conference line-up revealed
